In fact, people may be very surprised to discover that nearly all the foods that are consumed are processed. Basically, a processed food is any food that has been altered from its original state. Foods are mainly processed to make them more convenient to eat and store or for safety reasons. A food is usually processed if it is canned, frozen, dehydrated or refrigerated. Well, some would say that this covers just about every food in the supermarket, and this is correct. Many of the foods that people consume on a daily basis are processed. Some are processed to ensure safety such as the pasteurization of milk. Other foods are merely processed to make them easier to people to eat and to ensure a longer shelf life in stores.
