Why I Am Not a Confidence Coach, I Am a Self-Esteem Coach
There are many more confidence coaches than there are self-esteem coaches. This is strange because confidence has much smaller impact on your life than self-esteem. Of course there is nothing wrong with raising your confidence, but what you really need to raise is your self-esteem.
Confidence is your sense of how well you can successfully accomplish tasks. For example, you may be confident that you can solve mathematical problems without difficulties, or you may be confident in your ability to keep your house clean and tidy. You can have a high self-confidence in some areas but low in other ones. Self-esteem, on the other hand, is your sense of personal value and is built chris hsu hong kong up from all the various thoughts and feelings about yourself that you have had throughout your life. It includes your perceptions of how well you can DO things (i.e. your confidence), as well as your perception of your own body, your experiences of how others treat you, your emotions in various situations etc. Thus, confidence is a part of self-esteem but not the only part. Confidence is about doing, and self-esteem is about being.
Because confidence is only a part of self-esteem, it naturally has fewer consequences than self-esteem. How confident you are affects how well you can do things. For example, if you are very confident in your ability to cook you will most likely cook a lot better than somebody who has no confidence in this area. However, just because you are a confident cook, it doesn’t mean that you are also confident when it comes to giving presentations. Self-esteem affects not only how well you accomplish things, but also much more. It affects your relationships with other people, what kind of events and people that you attract into your life, your mental health, your physical health and much more. In fact, self-esteem affects EVERYTHING. If you have high self-esteem you will most likely both cook better AND give better presentations compared to a person with low self-esteem. If there is anything you want to change in your life – whether it is a specific problem or if you want to improve in some area – you have to start by raising your self-esteem. Raising your self-esteem will have much wider consequences than raising your confidence.
Confidence coaches help you to believe in your ability to do a specific task. For example, if you want to gain more confidence in public speaking because of your upcoming oral exam, you may hire a confidence coach. However, if you instead hire a self-esteem coach you would not only get a higher mark in your oral exam, but you would also learn to become happier with yourself and your life in general. As a self-esteem coach I help people to see the positive qualities that they have but that they cannot see, and the opportunities that come up in their lives but that they have become blind to. I also help people to create better relationships and better health. This is different from what confidence coaches do.
